Now none of that is probably about to change. However a new river wave has been discovered in Poland. Located on the Bobr river, the new wave only breaks a couple days a year (after big downpours). It looks at tad trickier than the Eisbach river machine, or it might just be that the locals haven’t got it dialled yet. But going from their pre-surf warm-up routines, they’re taking their shit seriously.

Rumour has it this new discovery even got Spanish pro Gony Zubizarreta thinking. He hails from Europe’s rainiest region ever, Galicia. And look what he went and found right on his doorstep!

If you watched the clip from yesterday of Teahupoo’s Code Purple Swell, apart from the incredible waves,  the biggest eye opener was the sheer chaos going down. Boats were scrambling over lips, kooks were freefalling from the sky and every wave had half a dozen skis and riders and jockeying for position. It didn’t take a genius to work out that with such conditions it was only a matter of time before someone was hurt.

Unfortunately that someone was Sancho, who after being towed in by Alain Riou suffered a heavy wipeout. “It was heavy trying to get him on the ski. He was unanimated, eyes rolled back, blood everywhere,” Alain told Magic Seaweed.

Alain put Sancho near death experience down to the heavy crowd and associated chaos. “I towed him too deep because of the crowd.” said Alain. “We had been waiting a long time for that wave and as we headed in another ski got on our way, I had to slow down and go around it and we ended up too deep despite going full throttle.”

Luckily due to Alain’s quick thinking and jetski skills Sancho was okay, being released from hospital later in the day with just a few stitches and a massive headache. The swell was as big as the day before, just a little less consistent. Some ridiculous waves went down, the normal chargers, guys like Raimana, Dorian, Towner, Mathews all scoring bombs.
