A Grainy Rainy Mundaka

3 comments 03:59PM Mon, 7th May 2012

As the sun rises out of the east up from behind the surrounding Urdaibai estuary hills, its rays then fall more or less straight onto the fast tapering walls of Mundaka. That sheen is pretty much unmistakeble. The offshore south wind that filters down through the estuary valley and grooms those walls is frequently accompanied by rain, rain that makes the motorway run down there always a tad treacherous. But boy is it worth it. If for some reason you’ve forgotten or not sure what we’re talking about then this vid should clear things up. And for more anecdotes on the Basque Country jewel check the latest issue of Surf Europe and its awesome A to Z of Atlantic shred.

Txomin Higson is not actually Basque, even though he has taken to wearing hiking boots and tracky bums as part of his everyday get-up.
